A yacht rally is a series of short day passages, with
at least one day between each to allow for sightseeing. This
type of event attracts people who are not fully experienced sailors
and sailors who would not be happy with long races that may
incorporate night sailing or tricky navigation. For those who
may feel less competent, at an extra cost, a day skipper can
be employed. However, these yachts are easy to sail and can
be handled competently by four people.
The yacht rally concept allows for a series of races to be conducted
between yachts of various sizes, speed and crew experience with
a winner (or winners) being determined by arbitrary handicaps.
Because
of the difference in length of the yachts, there may be handicap
starts to allow the yachts to arrive at the finish at about the
same time. The rally concept has the emphasis on safety, fun and sailing
