Teki Dalton, an experienced international yachtsman and businessman, is a director of GALLIPOLI YACHT RALLY Pty Ltd. His background includes being an inaugural board member of the Australian Maritime Safety Authority, business consultant to the Australian War Memorial, sailing school principal and acknowledged authority on safety at sea. His contacts within the Turkish Government and with Turkish Military Commanders provide the Rally with the appropriate permissions to ensure its success. His personal friendships with the Mayors and Governors of the Ports of Call and the welcome they extend to the Rally enhances the bond of friendship between Turkey and the ANZAC countries.

The Rally Director for the GALLIPOLI YACHT RALLY in 2005 and 2008 and future Rallies is David McClean, an accomplished yachtsman and sailing instructor. He has experience with charter yachts in the Mediterranean and the Whitsunday’s as well as many long distance offshore races.

The Rally will have personnel available at times to ensure all participants enjoy the special nature of a charter yacht holiday, sail safely and absorb the atmosphere of the sights and culture of Turkey. The Rally director will conduct the races and supervise the overall event.

Metin Cakir, a representative from the yacht charter company, will accompany the Rally route by land providing assistance with translation, mooring and yacht support.

Gallipoli Yacht Rally director, Teki Dalton, holds the following qualifications:

  • Yachting Australia Yachtmaster Offshore Instructor and Examiner
  • International Yachtmaster Training Master of Yachts (Offshore) Instructor and Examiner
  • National Powerboat Examiner
  • Yachting Australia Yacht Racing Instructor 
  • Australian Coaching Council Level 1 (Sailing) and Yachting Australia State Coach.
  • NSW Maritime sailing school instructor,
  • Yachting Australia Special Regulations Category 1 Equipment Auditor
  • Recreation Industry Assessor qualification (Australian Sports Commission)
  • Yachting Australia’s Safety and Sea Survival Course Instructor and Examiner
  • Accredited instructor for the Personal Survival Techniques module of STCW ’95 for commercial shipping.
  • Australian Communication Authority accreditation to conduct and supervise examinations for the Marine Radio Operators Certificate of Proficiency
 

Teki has competed (either as crew, sailing master, navigator or skipper) in fifteen Sydney to Hobart races, crossed the China Sea twelve times (racing and cruising) and has raced in the Mediterranean, the Pacific and the Atlantic Oceans. He has represented Australia (as well as being Australian Team Manager) and the Australian Capital Territory in yachting. During the last 5 years he has conducted Safety and Sea Survival Courses for the Hong Kong Sailing Federation, the Turkish Sailing Federation and representatives of the Chinese Yachting Association.

His best three overall results in Sydney to Hobart Races, as a skipper, are 6th, 7th and 10th. He was the winning skipper of two Cruising Yacht Club of Australia’s Blue Water Championship; Mercedes 1V (1984/85) and Nadia 1V (1988/89)

In December 1993 Teki completed a three-year appointment on the inaugural Board of the Australian Maritime Safety Authority. He is the editor of the book ‘Sea Safety for Small Craft’ and writer/presenter of the videos ‘Safe Boating ‘and ‘mayday, mayday, mayday’. He is the author of the twelve-part series on sea safety for the Australian magazine ‘Cruising Helmsman’.

His business background includes retail bookselling (www.booksforsale.net.au) and a two-year term as president of the Australian Booksellers Association; editor of the books Buying a Pharmacy and Buying and Selling a Pharmacy for the Pharmacy Guild of Australia, commercial consultant to the Australian War Memorial, consultant on marine legal liability actions and was a panel member and part-time chairman of the Australian Government’s Immigration Review Panel from 1987-94.
